Tim Ho Wan at Megamall

We tried to eat at the famous Tim Ho Wan at Megamall and we were fortunate not to wait for a long line and we got a table right away. We tried some of the popular dishes, Pork buns, Carrot Cake, Pork roll, Vermicelli with sweet sesame sauce.

i do not know what is the hype with the food. Yes, I admit it was served hot and fresh. The pork buns were maybe above average but not something that you will crave for and it is not something that you will remember that you want to keep on eating it or keep on wanting more.

The vermicelli that we ordered costs 140 pesos and the vermicelli with pork or shrimp costs around 160 (pork) and 190 (shrimp) better order the ones with the filling than be left with only a vermicelli and sweet sauce.

The pork rolls (siomai) is ok, I have tasted it somewhere similar yet less expensive.
The fried carrot cake, is a little oily and I do not know what is the ingredients of that, labanos? hehehehe. We ordered it just to try it but better put your money on the pork buns next time.

Our bill totals 790.00 for the four orders (we ordered two pork buns) and I think you can also get the same taste when you eat in a hotel eating the same food.

I do not know this is my honest review of the food. well, there may be something extraordinary with the food but I find it not really as awesome as they claim. It is not something "wow" maybe i just do not like dimsum so much.

Dear Bong Revilla - from Thinking Class of the Philippines

I am adding to my blog, the open letter addressed to Senator Bong Revilla.

Dear Senator,

Cesarean Section at The Medical City

I had a cesarean section at the "The Medical City" last August 15, 2014. It was a scheduled CS and I was admitted August 14. First step is that you have to go to the Admitting Section where you have to choose your room. One technique is to get a semi-private room, to have lesser charge. Usually semi-private rooms are reserved for minor OB-GYNE surgery for overnight stay like hysteroscopy. I was hesitant to get a semi-private room because rooming in of newborn is practiced at this hospital.
It was an advantage though because we stayed at the hospital for 4 days and we had the room for ourselves for 2 days.

Going back to the steps, after Admission you will have several doctors and interns interviewing you about your medical history, I had an OB, Endocrinologist, Pediatrician and they asked the same questions. Allergies, diabetes, heart conditions, smoking, alcohol etc.

That night an ECG,fetal heart monitoring and IV was performed. I was also instructed to use an antiseptic to use for my hair and body prior to the operation. It was their SOP. The following day, I was at the Delivery Room at 8am and was at the Recovery Room by 10am.

From what I remembered, I had the lumbar anesthesia and after the insertion of the anesthesia, everybody in the operating room was moving so fast. I can see what they were doing from the reflection in the light bulb but then I stopped looking and prayed.

When I heard the cry of my baby, I was relieved and cried because all is well. The 37 weeks was over, she is ok, I am ok.

I stayed at the Recovery Room for 7 hours, I was at my room at 5pm but I was ok around 3pm. I have to move my legs before they can wheeled me into my room. It was August 15 and it was the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, there were 10 scheduled CS that day. The hospital was lacking in personnel to bring their patient to their room which is understandable I guess.

My family was waiting for me, I was so groggy, I can hear them but I was too weak from the anesthesia. One personnel from NICU or from breastfeeding was trying to get some milk from me because the baby has not been feed yet. She tried to squeeze my breast so hard I felt blood going out of my vagina. Breastfeeding contracts the uterus and when the uterus contracts it bleeds.

I had breastmilk at day 3 and my breast was engorged. It was so painful. Having a cesarean section is painful and having an engorged breast makes it worse. I was sore all over. My nerves were also sore, my hand and joints are painful as a result of the heparin that I injected while pregnant.

I told myself I will never do this again. You know the sacrifice of the mother just to give birth, it is so death defying. No words can express the hardship and pain a mother goes through birth. Only a mother can empathize I guess.

The monetary cost of the CS Section at this hospital is around 150-200 thousand pesos. We paid close to 200 thousand that is less Philhealth and community discount. Whew, that is a lot of money.
The total cost of me getting pregnant and giving birth is close to 350 thousand. From the medicines to ultrasound, Immunologist fee, thyroid blood test and the heparin.

That is money well spent I am sure.

Bringing in another human into this world is both pricey and priceless.

This is a not so typical week for me.

Checking papers because I teach. Monday to Friday. Psychological Assessment, Experimental Psychology, Filipino Psychology. General Psychology.

This is how it looks like, 10 experiments multiply by 50 students equals a total of 500 reports.
I have finished the other reports though.

I do research and present them, just recently my paper was accepted to be presented to a research convention sponsored by PUP and endorsed by CHED. I have to prepare for this too because of the October deadline.

This is an invitation for the Extension Colloquium for September 29 to 30 because we do community service, I teach for two hours every Sunday to children in our neighborhood. I teach or assist them in their academic subjects like Math and English. Now we have to present our work coming Tuesday and Wednesday.

Aside from teaching, I am also a graduate student, just started with my Doctoral Degree in Technical Education, I still have to finish these assignments and read several topics for submission every week!
Plus we have to discuss and report our selected topics inside the class. Whoa! That was me before my presentation. I was able to goof around and take some selfie.

I am not single!
I am also a mother of two. Kiara is seven and Arya is one. Everyday, I keep on thinking how do I survive? I have several things to do and finish. I have several roles and responsibilities. Sacrifice is a word associated with what we teachers do. That is why, I thank God for holidays because I have extra time. Sometimes because of the things we do we tend to forget some minor but important things. Like taking care of ourselves.

This is my idea of sexiness.
What do you do 2x a week to keep you feeling clean and sexy?

(Sorry I can't model myself wearing that because of my profession. :) so I opt to have the innocent bear wear it)

Some women use very sexy underwear to feel sexy.

Wearing sexy lingerie can boost a woman's self confidence because it gives a secret sense of pleasure or mystery.

Sexy underwear may encourage you to stand a little taller
and walk with a little sway of the hips maybe with a little exaggeration.

But all those lingerie or sexy underwear is useless if you are not clean down there.

If you feel irritated or itchy you can't shake your butt, you can't strut, you can't twerk it like Miley. You can't even open your legs. Period.

Sexiness is not you because Clean is the the New Sexy.

Cleanliness adds to Sexiness.

There is a hint of innocence and freshness with being clean.

There is simplicity no need to cover anything up.

Cleanliness is beauty in itself. Beauty is Sexy. Clean is Sexy.

In this time of traffic and rush hours some small things that really matter are sometimes the one that we forget to do. It may look simple and not important but taking care of ourself especially our hygiene should be one of our priority.

It will do us good dear ladies to observe proper intimate hygiene like using BETADINE® Feminine Wash.

It is a habit for me to clean at least twice a week or every other day or during those
red days that helps me feel comfortable all day.

Betadine Feminine Wash also kept me clean
during my pregnancy months that helped in the prevention of common pregnancy infections.

More importantly, after I gave birth cleaning and washing with Betadine Feminine Wash improves post-pregnancy conditions, no irritations and no itchiness.

Being clean especially down there leaves you no room for worries about infections, an ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure.

No worries means you feel fresh and feel clean down there.

It gives you the confidence to feel sexy maybe the same amount of confidence a sexy underwear can give.

But who needs a sexy underwear when you are already fresh and clean with Betadine Feminine Wash, That is enough for me to feel sexy.

Please Don't Let Them Hurt Your Children

This is my daily prayer. It hurts to read or hear stories of children hurting. Hurting physically because they are sick, hurting emotionally because they are lonely and nobody listens to them. Children who are in the hospital, children who can't breath, children who can't eat. Helpless innocent children. My heart breaks and I can't bear to listen or read stories about them. But while I was thinking about this I keep on thinking of our role as a member of the society and our role as a Christian. Even I feel helpless and sometimes I just want to stay numb with this kind of problem as if this concerns me.

I have two girls. I hurt them too. I shout at them and spank them as a way of discipline. If I do not discipline them they will grow up to believe that everything that they do is alright even if it is not. I sometimes want to quit my job and just spend time with them because my job is preventing me from having quality time with them. Technology is a bad thing because it keeps me away from my children, they are so busy watching TV and playing online games than sharing or playing. I really hate the technology because even my husband is addicted to online game. I also find myself checking my smart phone once in a while or more often.

I just want to go somewhere where the grass is green and there are no internet connection. It's just the four of us. So I can talk to my husband and I can play with the  kids no istorbo.

This is Kiara inside the Gangnam Chicken store, beside this luminated chicken are the soju bottles. I do not know if this is for display purposes or this is the one that they serve.

They have an everyday promo from Monday to Sunday though we did not try any promo.
This is a pancake vegetable that we ordered for our Toddler, Arya since she is a picky eater. She only ate the egg. This pancake vegetable is full of stalks.
We ordered their original recipe chicken and I am going to compare the way it was cooked and taste, I would prefer Bon Chon and Kyo Chon.
This is another facade of the restaurant.
Kiara, Irwin and Arya on another side of the store.

Rating:

Ambience: 4.5 They have a dim light, conducive for eating and relaxing, it was actually relaxing because they have soft Korean music, though you do not know the lyrics unless you speak Korean you will not mind the sound. Their decorations is also perfect for a photo backdrop because their wall has several mixture of colors.

Food: 3.5 I like the chicken that we ordered but I might try their other entree still on Metrodeal.

Service: We went there around 2-3 pm on a Saturday and there were not enough customer so they have acceptable service.

Comfort Room: shared needs a little cleaning and supply of tissue.

Mental Health for the Filipino Youth

Adolescence is a phase of rapid growth and changes physically, mentally, and socially. These changes may be welcome or unacceptable depending on the adolescent's readiness. It is unfortunate that this developmental stage reports incidence of mental problems. Hence, I believe that this is the best time to introduce mental health and ways to encourage psychological well-being to our Filipino youth. We are all too familiar with the quote "the youth is the hope of our nation" by Jose Rizal, to make this dream a realization, we must build a society that value mental well-being, and by this value, we live by it and promote it. Speaking of Dr. Jose Rizal, he is the best candidate of a Filipino that displays mental health, from realizing his potential to being resilient and we cannot deny his great contribution to our country and the world. These modules are created for the youth, for the students, to answer the mental health integration into the educational system to address the mental health conditions and promote a mentally fit individual. A module that integrates indigenous knowledge, beliefs, and practices of Filipinos to expose students to traditional elements of our ancestors that widely influence the behavior of their elders, and to a certain degree influences today's youth. Though we are bombarded with Western and Asian influences in our daily lives, it is rewarding and insightful to discover ways of living and healing from our Filipino forefathers.

Abstract

The emergence of the business process outsourcing (BPO) industry introduced such drastic changes. Its demands have brought significant changes to the Philippines’ work scene. Despite the good impact of the BPO industry in The Philippines, there are certain problems in the industry such as high attrition rate, work-life balance conflicts, lifestyle diseases, and others that need to be dealt with. As such, the study attempted to investigate the impact of the different sources of motivation and the phases of burnout on the psychological well-being of Filipino call center agents. Data were gathered from 300 call center agents from four call center companies in Baguio City using cross-sectional prediction. It was found that call center agents have a moderate level of intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. In terms of the level of burnout, the participants have a high level of emotional exhaustion and depersonalization which resulted in low personal accomplishment. Further analysis revealed that intrinsic motivation (β = .38, p = .001) and the three different phases of burnout such as emotional exhaustion (β = .-0.39, p = .001), depersonalization (β = .-0.25, p = .001) and reduced personal accomplishment (β = .-0.23, p = .001) are significant predictors of psychological well-being of call center agents. Multiple Regression analyses revealed that 41.8% [F (5,294) = 44.004, ΔR2 = .418, p < .001] of the variance in the psychological well-being of the respondents is accounted for by the combined effects of both burnout and motivation.

      Catherine Marbun

Abstract: Intrapersonal skills are integral to human lives. As applied in a management setting, intrapersonal skills are fundamental to leaders. Assessment on relationship between intrapersonal skills and leadership performance as well as relation to leaders’ profile can help management to prepare their millennial leader on develop their soft skills to be better leaders in the future. Based on big five theory on Intrapersonal Skills of Leaders, the five elements (conscientiousness, agreeableness, neuroticism, openness and extraversion) were required to a very large extent in millennial leadership. The five elements were significantly related to gender, and only some elements having significant relation to age, educational attainment, and length of service of millennial leaders. Management together with human resource department should constantly review the soft skills of millennial leaders by evaluating their teams’ performance.

This is an article that describes how a person from Czech Republic, Aneta Kalousková atelier Karel designed a stuffed animal that interacts with the owner..

This is my FB posts.

Nang dahil kay Ellie..
Ellie is the elephant stuffed animal that Kiara Isabel Montalbo loves so much hanggang ngayon na katabi pa rin niya hanggang pagtulog.
Ellie has always been with us even in our travels.
I got interested in the effects of stuffed animal and so I had a research about it and it is published and available in the internet.
I was searching for citations of my researches.. kasi may incentive raw.. hahaha..
So I got this.. in Czech language..
by Aneta Kalousková atelier Karel
This is the principle behind the product, I used Google translate: Mici
Mici is a stuffed cat responding to contact.
In interaction with it, the user, in contrast to contact with a normal stuffed animal, receives feedback in the form of a rumble.
The device thus approaches the therapeutic effect of the animal.
The regular rumble frequency is intended to help the user synchronize the breath and thus calm them down. The rumble also uses the therapeutic effect of sound based on white noise.
The product is intended for both momentary rest and relaxation, as well as an aid to falling asleep better.
Although marami siyang naging inspiration sa product niya, the researcher cited one of my research as support sa ginawa niya, and masaya na ako roon.

I know Ellie helped Kiara a lot in her growing up years at ilang taon na wala rin siyang kapatid, it really is a source of comfort for her, hence my study...

Because we are too focused on that kind of education, of having a diploma, of getting good grades, or graduating with honors that we forgot the person.. the individual... we also forgot the importance of education, real learning, yung natuto ka, kasi nagbago ang ugali mo, bukod sa may nalaman ka, na-apply mo kung ano ang natutunan mo...

Strip a person of his educational attainment, strip a person of his awards, strip him of connections, strip him of everything else, tignan mo kung ano ang natira... kung masaya ka sa natira kahit maraming nawala sa iyo,, masuwerte ka na nilalang..

Exploring Critical Issues of Technical Support in Contact Centers of the Philippines: Toward a Grounded Theory

This is the abstract

ABSTRACT

The contact center industry in the Philippines, named by Deloitte as one of the two top contact center destinations in Asia, has been expanding rapidly in terms of technology, workforce size, and economic scope. This study aims to explore, using the Glaserian grounded theory method (GTM), the main concern of contact center agents, particularly inbound technical support representatives, in Northern Mindanao in the Philippines, and how they resolve their main concern, especially using information technology. GTM goes beyond the descriptive approach of most qualitative methods by generating from the data, a theory of the substantive area. The rationale for GTM reflects the source of the developed theory grounded in the behavior, words, and actions of those under study. The theory can inform the development of systems, processes, structures, and policies that will support the actors in the substantive area. Preliminary results suggest that staying at the organization or else seeking other employment opportunities is the main concern of the technical support representatives, who resolve this main concern using a cyclical process, each cycle of which has four stages: training, struggling, coping, and motivating. The application of technologies in contact center operations can play a key role in sustaining the technical support representatives' decision to stay longer in the industry.

The Relationship between Erciyes, Selçuk, and Akdeniz Medical School Third-Year Students’ Learning Approaches and Their Non-attendance Attitude and Tendencies

https://brieflands.com/articles/jme-105575.pdf

Abstract

Background: Non-attendance is an undesirable student behavior. Although some studies about the factors for non-attendance behavior have been carried out at medical schools, the learning approach of a student has not been studied and it can also be a factor for non-attendance. We aimed to assess the relationship between learning approaches and non-attendance attitude and tendency. Methods: This is a correlational study. 644 students registered in three medical schools were enrolled. Data were collected during May 2015. “The Revised Two Factor Learning Approach Scale”, “Non-attendanceAttitude Scale” and “Non-attendance Tendency Scale” were used as data collection tools. Results: Out of 478 studied students, 10.3% mentioned that they never missed theoretical classes and 71.3% mentioned that they never missed practical classes. Sleeplessness was the most common reason fornon-attendance. 45.6% of all students thought that non-attendance affected student success. The students’ mean score for deep learning was 29.5±6.1 and for superficial learning was 30.5±5.6. The mean scorefor non-attendance attitude scale was 54.4±12.8 and from non-attendance tendency scale was 90.5±19.6. Conclusion: Learning approach is an effective factor for attendance. As deep learning approach is adopted, tendency for non-attendance decreases and the attitude becomes positive.

This study seeks to examine the educational goals, learning approach, and assessment preferences among part-time Master of Business Administration (MBA) and Master of Professional Accounting (MPA) students in Singapore. The quantitative study uses a questionnaire that employs a revised two-factor study process questionnaire (R-SPQ-2F) to identify students’ approach to learning, and the adapted Assessment Preference Inventory (API) to examine students’ preferences to different assessment types and tasks. The sample comprises 101 students (55 MBA and 46 MPA students) from various age groups, of which 57 are male students. The results of this study showed that educational goals relating to career advancement/enhancement and improved knowledge and skills were the key motivational factors that lead students to pursue postgraduate studies. When it comes to approaches to learning, students generally reported adopting a deep learning approach. This approach to learning was also evident in the assessment preference where they preferred assessments that required problem solving and application of materials learnt during the course. Among the five assessment types, respondents have a strong preference for individual assignments and showed least preference for exams. However, there was no significant difference in the preference for any of the assessment items/format among gender and age groups. The findings in this study can inform curriculum redesign for both programmes to suit the needs of existing students and also to increase their appeal to prospective students. The respondents’ views on their learning approach and assessment preferences allow instructors and module leaders to rethink the teaching pedagogy and current assessment structure that favour assignments in order to improve students’ learning

 Abstract

Mindset plays a vital role in tackling the barriers to improving the preservice mathematics teachers' (PMTs) conceptual understanding of problem-solving. As the COVID-19 pandemic has continued to pose a challenge, online learning has been adopted. This led this study to determining the PMTs' mindset and level of conceptual understanding in problem-solving in an online learning environment utilising Google Classroom and the Khan Academy. A quantitative research design was employed specifically utilising a descriptive, comparative, and correlational design. Forty-five PMTs were chosen through simple random sampling and willingly took part in this study. The data was gathered using validated and reliable questionnaires and problem-solving tests. The data gathered was analysed using descriptive statistics, analysis of variance, and simple linear regression. The results revealed that the college admission test, specifically numerical proficiency, influences a strong mindset and a higher level of conceptual understanding in problem-solving. Additionally, this study shows that mindset predicts the levels of conceptual understanding in problem

Eye Injury in Shih Tzu dogs

shih tzu eye injury photo

This is our Shih Tzu, Oreo and he had an eye injury. Something sharp injured his eye, there was a big hole in his right eye located in his peripheral vision. We do not know exactly how he got the injury but there was a house construction and there is a lot of dust, dirt, and cement it may have irritated his eyes. Since there was an irritation, Oreo might scratch his eyes.

We also have a cat, so that is one theory. The cat may have caused the injury.
Another theory was, that Oreo got caught in my lemon plants, it has sharp thorns that can injure his eyes.
Then I discovered that one of our wooden chairs had an exposed sharp metal that was also on the eye level of Oreo.

Anyways, we brought him to the veterinarian, and they performed eye surgery. His eyes were stitched so dirt and dust will not infect the wound. They also provided an eye drop, vitamin C, and eye tablet for Oreo.
The whole procedure and medicine cost around 10,000 pesos. The emergency procedure, anesthesia, blood work, CBC, doctor's fee, take-home medicine, and others were charged. Follow-up check-ups were free.

The stitches were removed after two weeks and no bathing while there were stitches.

He also had to wear a protective dog plastic to prevent him from touching his eyes. The doctor said it will help the dog while it's healing since the wound gets itchy.
He cannot scratch it.
